Ward Allebach is a 1995 graduate of the Master's of Science Program in Environmental Studies at California State University, Fullerton, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1988.
Mr. Allebach is Co-Founder of Education.org and Enviro Education which feature education-oriented web sites that are designed to help people find colleges, universities and training opportunities; EnviroEducation.com and its affiliate sites (including EnvironmentalPrograms.net, EnvironmentalSchools.org, and EnvironmentalColleges.info) focus on those seeking education in any environmentally-related field.
Prior to this venture, Mr. Allebach's work history in the environmental and communications fields were as follows:
Mr. Allebach founded Green Networking for Orange County in 1993, a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit environmental group. Through this group, he coordinated the efforts of more than 100 environmental nonprofit organizations in Orange County, California. The communications network enabled the environmental community to exchange their experiences, ideas and resources to learn from their similar experiences and better accomplish their individual goals. By 2000, Mr. Allebach had developed a network of more than 1,000 local environmental groups, businesses, government agencies and volunteers.
As volunteer director, Mr. Allebach's accomplishments through Green Networking were as follows:
- In 1994, Mr. Allebach co-sponsored an environmental event which was nationally-recognized by AT&T's Renew America Awards Index.
- In 1995, Mr. Allebach was featured on the front page of the Los Angeles Times for his efforts to organize the first Environmental Roundtable in Orange County.
- In 1996, Mr. Allebach directed the publication of "The Environmental Guide to Orange County" (re-published in 1999), a book designed to help people in the local community find the environmental groups and contacts of their interest. He served as the primary writer and editor of the book, and 10,000 copies are currently in circulation.
- In 1997, Green Networking was recognized by the news magazine OC Weekly as "The Best Environmental Information Clearinghouse" in Orange County.
- In print, Mr. Allebach's work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Orange County Register, and many other smaller newspapers and magazines; his environmental advocacy has also been featured on television and radio programs such as "Real Orange," "Animal House," "The Rapid Response Network," "Re-Greening Orange County," and "The OC News Channel."
- In 1997, Mr. Allebach co-founded the Orange County Interfaith Coaltion for the Environment, which first organized "Caring for Creation: A Conference on Religion and the Environment" in 1998 as an annual conference. The event has been staged every year since and has featured celebrities Ed Begley Jr. and Julia Butterfly Hill, as well as many noted spiritual leaders who are also advocates for the environment, including The Rev. Peter Kreitler (founder of The Great LA Clean-up and Earth Service, Inc.), The Rev. Peter Moore-Kochlachs (Director of Environmental Ministries of Southern California), and Dr. Dean Feudenberger of the Claremont School of Theology. The conference and subsequent workshops have attracted thousands of participants.
In 1997, Mr. Allebach used the experiences gained through Green Networking as the basis for developing the curriculum for a graduate class at California State University, Fullerton, called "Environmental Activism and Organizations," which he taught for two years. He also instructed a similar class for undergraduates at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, California, for two years. Mr. Allebach currently teaches "Management of Nonprofit Environmental Organizations" for the University of Pittsburgh, Environmental Studies Department.
From 1992-2000, Mr. Allebach worked as an Environmental Resources Specialist for the County of Orange Environmental Management Agency. In this position, he worked in regulatory compliance related to the Clean Water Act, field chemistry related to water quality analyses, and public outreach for the County's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program. He also prepared more than 200 Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and supervised dozens of Phase II hazardous materials investigations.
