Introduction: Antioch University has a rich history and long-standing mission of contributing to positive social change and the resolution of social problems. Over the years, Antioch students, faculty, and alums have acted as an esteemed international community of vanguards committed to themes of social and environmental justice. A few of our graduates are 1996 Nobel Laureate and East Timor leader José Ramos-Horta, civil rights leader Coretta Scott King, and Professor Stephen Jay Gould. Accordingly, the Master of Arts in Environment and Community is based on the premise that a just and sustainable world requires our recognition of the inseparability of social and environmental equity. Our program prepares adults originating from the Pacific Northwest, across the U.S., and internationally, to become leaders of social and environmental change within their respective communities of home. Students in the program acquire the knowledge, skills, and sensibilities needed to facilitate collaborative learning and problem solving to address the full breadth of social, economic, political, environmental, cultural, and spiritual challenges which we face today.
