Delaware's location on the Atlantic Ocean and its proximity to the Chesapeake Bay, along with the Delaware River, make this a great place for environmental students. Water resources issues, species conservation, and natural resources rights come to a head in this tiny state. Many residents are dedicated to finding environmental solutions to problems related to agriculture and industry (the state is #1 in the US for chemical production). The state's innovative Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy, striving to combat the "tragedy of the commons," is a study in bringing various interest groups together for a common cause.

Introduction: The distance-learning program in Coastal Zone Management at Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center provides a timely, credible forum for learning about key national and international issues and case studies related to the ecology and management of the coastal and marine environment, including ongoing research at the Oceanographic Center. The flexible distance format makes it ideal for adult learners, including working professionals and college graduates in a variety of related fields. Courses may be taken individually for general interest, undergraduate or graduate credit. We offer a full online MS in Coastal Zone Management and a 4-course Graduate Certificate in Coastal Studies. Our distance MS in Education with Specialization in Environmental Education is available through the National Graduate Teacher Education online program. The “Study Abroad” program provides a jointly-taught MS in Marine Biology with a field station of the University of London.
