More than half a million Minnesotans support environmental advocacy, and dozens of groups are working tirelessly to preserve and enhance the state's abundant natural resources. Water pollution is a huge issue, as the state has more than 12,000 lakes and 92,000 miles of rivers and streams.
With so much to protect in a state bursting with resources, it's hardly surprising job opportunities for environmentalists are plentiful. Environmental engineers are forecasted to see 45.2% growth through 2012, while environmental scientists and protection technicians are slated for a 38% increase.
